A team of Sixth Form students has won through to the national final of the Young Analysts' Chemistry Competition. The three Year 12 students, Joshua Bleakley, James Murthi and David Rossington, competed in the Lancashire and Cumbria round of the competition, which was held at the University of Central Lancashire.
The challenge comprised a 3 hour practical and involved investigating the acidity of aspirin and the masses of vitamin C and iron present in vitamin tablets by spectrophotometry and titration.
The students were delighted to pick up £300 worth of prizes and a place in the National final in Bagnor in June.
