further bursary awards

February 2008

Four bursary awards from the Peter Kershaw Trust will be awarded to pupils at Bolton School Boys' and Girls' Divisions.  Peter Kershaw, the ex-Chairman of Joseph Holt brewery, who died in 2000, set up his trust to benefit disadvantaged young people.

A bursary will also be offered by the Frank Buttle Trust - the largest UK charity providing grant aid to children and young people in need.

The awards help the School to pursue its aim of providing an education for all academically able children, irrespective of financial circumstances.

Mr Simon Marsden, Clerk and Treasurer, commented: "Bursary provision is something we are continuously striving to improve at Bolton School.  For parents with a joint annual income of under £16,232, we do offer full fee bursaries.  Parents can also receive assistance with their fees as long as their joint income does not exceed £54,108.  Currently, 286 pupils receive assistance with their fees.”

Mrs Richards, Headmistress of the Girls' Division added: "We continue to strive to make a Bolton School education available to all able children.  I am delighted that these two trusts can now offer bursaries to study at Bolton School.  I have seen, many times, how assistance with school fees can alter the course of someone's life.”
